Bruno Maçães

Bruno Maçães is a Portuguese political scientist, author, and geopolitical strategist. He served as Portugal’s Secretary of State for European Affairs from 2013 to 2015, representing the country during critical periods including the eurozone crisis, Brexit, and the first Ukraine war.

Maçães holds a PhD in political science from Harvard University and has held fellowships at Renmin University in China and the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C. Since 2020, he has been a fellow at the Wilfried Martens Centre in Brussels. 

He is the author of several influential books on geopolitics, including The Dawn of EurasiaBelt and RoadHistory Has BegunGeopolitics for the End Time, and his latest work, World Builders: Technology and the New Geopolitics

Currently, Maçães serves as a Senior Advisor at Flint Global in London and foreign correspondent for the New Statesman.
